So happy with these boots and that’s saying a lot since I have so many foot problems. It’s always worrisome to buy shoes online so I’ll try to describe these best I can. First of all I won’t be making any 20 mile hikes. I’m over 70 and need boots to allow for my farm chores and bad weather, not mountain climbing, but if these work for me, how much better for those who are young and spry.I’ve overweight and my feet tend to swell quite a bit, plus I have fused big toe joints. I can no longer get tall boots on at all and even regular tennies can pose a problem if I can’t open them wide. I need a big toe box and decent width, but have narrow heels. I need a cushiony insole, but also arch support (flat feet), low heel to toe height ratio and a rocker bottom to help with my stride because of bad ankles. It seems an impossible set of requirements. So it was with great trepidation that I ordered these boots.Pretty much all I can wear anymore is what my grandchildren call my ‘Air Grammas’, thick leather New Balance shoes with a wide tongue and stabilizing sole. Boots and shoes I could wear previously have been relegated to the back of the closet. These include Mephisto walkers and Timberland and Ariat boots among others. Heels too high, tongues too narrow, not enough flexibility or too much, you name it.These boots offer easy on/off while even having an attached tongue to aid in waterproofing. The toe box is ample and the width good, but you have to order a half size up for length. I did that and they are perfect. Even though the toe box width is generous, the heel is narrow enough to eliminate slippage. The built-in ankle stabilization is very helpful and the modified rocker bottom makes walking relatively easy for me, which is quite something. Few boots offer that. The padded ankle collar and height is very comfortable. The sole at the heel is not much higher than that at the toe which also makes walking easier for me. The sole is sturdy, but flexible at the same time. The mid-foot support is surprisingly good for my flat feet and although I often replace insoles with orthotics or other insoles to help my various problems, the ones that come in these boots are great just as they are.Normally I wear a 9B although on some shoes the B is too tight. That’s a problem with my narrow heels because a wide width affects heel width too. I bought these in 9.5B and they are perfect.I kept the packing, so sure was I that I’d have to return the boots, but it can all go out now. There will be no return. Very happy indeed.I love theese. I've hiked in the about 5 times they have been really goodMy favorite hobby is hiking, mostly off trail. Unfortunately I inherited my mother’s bunions which tend to make long hiking trips quite painful. After doing some research, this boot was recommended for those, like myself, whom suffer from hallux valgus. Right out of the box, the wide toe box that these Keen’s offer felt amazing. The boot is also fitted around the heel, which not only keeps my foot from sliding in the boot, but also provides stability. I’ve just returned from a 5 mile, off trail hike, which involved a lot of climbing, crawling, and side-hilling. With my previous boots, after about 2 1/2 miles, my bunion pain would become so severe that I’d have to call it quits. These Keens far exceeded my expectations. The waterproofing kept my feet nice and dry, even after spending time hopping around in a creek. My toes never felt pinched as they had plenty of wiggle room. I still developed some bunion pain on one foot, but that was the fault of the amount of side-hilling I did and not the fault on my shoe. Next hike. I plan to wrap my bunions to see if that doesn’t help with the side-hill pressure. I typically wear a 9 and I ordered a 9 1/2, which fits well with my thin hiking socks. However, I probably should have considered a size 10 to accommodate my thicker, wool hiking socks. All in all, I definitely recommend these boots from Keen.Excellent quality for reasonable price. I visited a lot of different locations with quite different enviroment conditions in those boots and felt comfortable everywhere. Just after buying I wore them for simple home-work-home walk. I just wore them and went to the office, without any those inconviniences with new shoes. In the office, these boots were comfortable enough and not hot. The next was 18km hike through forest and park, where we even found some snow (photo 1). Boots were even more comfortable, not hot, not cold, breathable and stable on slippery wet path. The next test was a long jorney from Kiyv, Ukraine to San Miguel island, Azore in December. I feel dry, not hot and comfortable in airplanes with this boots. And real test started on San Miguel))) Very high humidity, rains, a lot of puddles, dew on the grass, beaches with slippery and sharp volcanic stones and sand, durty roads, prickly plants like blackberries, mountain woods with slippery roots and fallen branches... All those thing were not the problem for me with Keen's boots. They proved their waterproofness and high stability, they somehow didn't turn into rags after I walked to Lagoa do Fogoa through bushes. The last two photos is how the boots looks now, after all the adventures.Minuses: wet laces very often untied, had to tuck them in. Very unpleasant. The tread on the sole rubbed slightly.I bought a pair of these boots 3 years ago to go walking in the Grand Canyon and they are perfect for my rather wide feet. I've bought many other, fairly expensive, brands which all seem to have a pointy toe shape, and they always gave me blisters as my toes were too squashed together. These boots are, quite simply, the best! They have a rounder shaped, wide toe area which my feet love. There are clips near the ankle which hold the laces while you tie them - very useful. Just like my older Keens, I wore these boots without having to "wear them in" and as with my older ones, sheer comfort and no blisters! As suggested, you do need to buy a half size bigger than your normal shoe size.I am a regular walker and these boots have never let me down, even in wet conditions my feet have remained dry and comfortable. If you have wide feet, these boots will be perfect for you. I hope that Keen will continue to make the Targhee ll as these are the ones I will always buy. My first ones are still going strong, these are new and will last a few years, but I may even buy myself another pair, just to make sure I always have them!Keen boots and shoes are designed to fit the shape of feet, and not crushing toes together etc. These boots are top quality, but as with most boots, they feel a lot more comfortable after breaking them in on two or three short walks. The laces are excellent with a non slip weave. There is a small reflective strip in the woven tape, and the two hooks at the top of the fastenings make the laces lock in. Good toe buffer. The tread makes one feel as though it has some substance and would be grippy, and the shape of the instep helps speed one along. All in all lots of attention to details giving excellent comfort and practicality. I am SO glad that I have discovered KEEN, as they will definitely be the firm I choose in future for boots and shoes. Congratulations KEEN!The boots are very confortable, altough, because of the stiffness of the boot, it will hurt a bit the ankle area at first until you give them some use to break that stiffness.Made the waterproof test, totally submerge my feet on the water for a few minutes and my feet maintained totally dry.Very good for walking in different types of paths and weather. Made my winter jorney in Iceland with then, snow, water, mud, passed everything with dry and warm feet, but even in more warmer weather they are very good to walk and with the feet in good temperature.well what can i say, they fit like a glove, they are light weighted ,there wide footed room to wiggle your toes as it should be,also just as important room for a good walking sock as well , i went for my first daily walk in them yesterday ,which is usually 8 miles no problem at all my feet were well taken care of no breaking in needed as it should be , but as time goes on with wear and tear and the lovely British weather( ha, ha ) who knows? ,i will review again if i can , so far so very good.Great boots; instantly comfortable, very lightweight and suitable for a wide foot as other reviewers have noted. Note regarding sizing; I order half a size up in these as they are a small fit, especially when worn with hiking socks.
