After 20+ hours of rigorous search for a pair of hiking shoes, ordering 5 pairs, and returning 4 of them, I finally found what I was looking for. So the things I had in mind for the hiking shoes were as follows:1- Arch support2- Breathable3- Good looking without the colors that get dirty easily4- Light-weight* First I ordered KEEN Men's Mckenzie Watersport Shoe that looked like the perfect choice initially, but alas the arch support was lacking despite what it looks like in the picture.* Then I ordered KEEN Men's Arroyo II Sandal that was the most comfortable shoe I had ever tried. Unfortunately I didn't like the colors it had for my size since none of them looked fine with jeans (of any color.)* Then I ordered Keen Utility Men's Atlanta Cool Steel Toe Work Shoe. This was the best looking pair of shoes I had ever worn that had great arch support too. If anyone is looking for shoes to kick steel butts, look no further, these are the boots for you. It was heavy like a boot, but I didn't care, because of its looks. But unfortunately two things I couldn't get along with were its breathability and its lack of cushion behind the ankles. It was also tighter in width and a tad smaller in length than other Keens of size 9. I guess I didn't get the irony behind its naming, Atlanta Cool! is it ever cool in Atlanta?* Finally I got it down to two finalists: Keen Men's Voyageur Hiking Shoe and Salomon Men's Eskape Aero Hiking Shoe. It was a tough decision but knowing how many Keens I had ordered previously and the color of Voyageur (dirt-immunity-wise) I went for the Keen.* I have worn these Keens for less than an hour now and after all I feel achieving quite an achievement. The only thing I didn't like about them so far has been the connection part between the toes protection front and the leather, which looks a bit lower in quality than what I have seen from Keen. I just hope that it doesn't fall apart and lives at least a hundred years. And that's how the story of a voyageur begins.*BEEEEPIt ended right there. The toe box of this shoe was either smaller than the average show I've worn for many years or it is because of its hardness that I felt so uncomfortable wearing them. If your toes aren't abnormally long like mine, I guess it would be fine, otherwise it may causes blisters on your longer toes.A shoe you can take Salsa dancing, hiking, hunting and on a jog around the park--comfortable out of the box, light, stable, rugged and dependable, a sure grip across many surfaces and just plain sexy (but you don't buy this for its' looks). This is my 2nd pair and the 1st was indestructible until I bathed it in Lexol leather conditioner to the point that the shoe smelled like manure everywhere I went. It traveled across 5 national parks (Bryce, Grand Canyon, Moab, Canyonlands and Zion) and even took a couple several trips to Europe, NYC, FL and enjoyed its' walks throughout my city. It feels like a running shoe mixed with a serious hunting boot with an aggressive tread. If it was a tire, it would be the smooth as butter Continental with a tractor tire. The shoe is not water resistant like the TargheeII, but it is lighter and breathes much better. The TargheeII is also an excellent buy if you want the same smoothness and ruggedness but in a waterproof shoe.I am on my second pair of these after walking many miles with the first and I can't praise them highly enough. The toe box is nicely wide, yet they don't slip on my heel -- the laces are just right for adjusting. Extremely comfortable, great for walking or hiking. Thanks, Keen!Keen shoes are wider then the average shoe but not too wide. I prefer this since my pinky toes never rub and blister, even though my feet are not wide. There is plenty of room inside the voyageur also for adding inserts to accommodate your preferences. I am using arch supports for plantar fascia issues and they do not feel too tight. I have been punishing a pair for about nine months everyday in the home improvement field and on trial and they are holding up great. Lots of protection allowing feet to have full range of motion and the interior is devoid of stitching causing foot irritation. Also these shoes are not super light but are not a heavy shoe. I hiked 14 miles up a 30 degree slope and the traction was good. Hope this helps in your selection. These have served me well and I am buying a third pair. Just remember these are a little wider at the toe box.Great for daily dry weather wear. Fit consistent with other Keen shoes. Which is to say it runs about a 1/2 to full size small. My foot is supposed to 10.5 but I always get 11.5 in Keen. I prefer a larger fit in the toe box and a longer arch placement so your experience may vary.I have the same shoe in a waterproof version and that one is sized exactly the same which makes it run even smaller as the liner takes up space inside the shoe. This mesh (i.e. no t waterproof) version fits like all my other Keens. The sole is surprisingly rigid and has the walking feel of a full blown hiking boot. This may be a negative if you are looking for a sneaker type feel. I like the stability of these and they work well for daily wear and moderate hiking in dry conditions.Overall these Keens have been a good purchase. I'm not one to spend a whole lot on shoes, but as my wife has had great luck with the brand I figured I'd give them a try. They breathe well, the toes have plenty of room, and they have been (so far) quite good for hiking, as the toe box is so sturdy that if I accidentally kick a rock, I don't smash my toes.Good overall construction, but I still think they are a bit expensive. I did notice a high point (due to the stitching) on the left shoe which does become rather irritating after wearing them for several hours, which is a real bummer, but other than that I give them high marks. If I wasn't traveling just after purchasing them, I would have exchanged them to see if another pair would be better.this is the third pair of these. The first two pairs I purchased in a store or from Keen online. The are just the same here so great. Shoe fits great and I like the style. No problems.I've only had these shoes for a short time but they fit perfectly right out of the box. Extra wide toe box makes for a very comfortable ride. Can't comment on the durability but so far so goodvery good priceGreat shoes, fast shipping. A++Great shoes
